About KBA
Kanpur's badminton legacy since 1989
The organized development of badminton in Kanpur began in 1989 with the affiliation of the Kanpur District Badminton Association to the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association. The Association organized its first Kanpur District Badminton Championship in 1990, followed by the Divisional Badminton Championship in 1992, establishing Kanpur as an important badminton centre in the state.
In 2002, the Association hosted the prestigious All India Badminton Tournament at Green Park Badminton Hall, featuring renowned international player Pullela Gopichand. Over the years, it has successfully organized numerous state and national-level tournaments and implemented the BWF Shuttle Time Programme to promote badminton at the grassroots level.
In August 2025, the Association was registered under the Societies Registration Act and was renamed Kanpur Badminton Association. Today, KBA continues to promote badminton by organizing quality tournaments, nurturing young talent, and providing opportunities for players of all age groups, carrying forward Kanpur’s proud badminton legacy.
